SSD

Today i was searching the online stores in need for one. I’ve tested throughout a certain period of time a few netbooks (arm based joke architecture) and find that’s not suitable for me. All i need from my mobile notebook is not to have a mobile hard drive (i’ve home a few broked without doing much stress to them). Studying the concept bring me to understand two different types of SSDs:

- the slc (single level cell)
- the mlc (multi level cell)

On a slc SSD, 1 bit cover 1 cell.
On a mlc SSD more bits (perhaps two) cover 1 cell.

I think for using to full potential we need slc SSD because we have more control over the total SSD as each bit is within it’s own cell.

ATTENTION

when disaster strike(including deletion, lifespan, etc), keep in mind that the failure of the SSD occurs at the cell level.

We lose both bits in a mlc, versus the single bit of the slc.
